BERSAHAJA Program - CBM

Information about BERSAHAJA Program in collaboration with CBM

CBM Global Indonesia, in collaboration with three local NGO partners, is implementing a mental health project called BERSAHAJA (Together for a Mentally Healthy Flores) in Manggarai and Sikka Regencies. The program is implemented through a consortium of three organizations: The Community Care Network as the Lead Consortium based in Kupang, Yayasan AYO Indonesia based in Manggarai, and Yayasan PAPHA based in Sikka. This project adopts a community-based rehabilitation approach, which places strong emphasis on the engagement and active participation of communities and stakeholders at all levels. It highlights the importance of involving families, communities, and local organizations in decision-making, planning, and program implementation processes. This approach ensures that the program is relevant, sustainable, and can be effectively adopted by the community. Collaboration and partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government institutions, local health service providers, and community organizations, will also contribute to maintaining technical quality. Regular coordination meetings, technical assistance, and knowledge-sharing platforms will be established to facilitate information exchange and ensure alignment with established standards and guidelines.

The expected outcomes of the program include, first, increased awareness among families, communities, and government institutions regarding integrated mental health care. Through socialization activities conducted at various community levels, awareness of the importance of mental health will increase significantly. These campaigns are designed to reduce stigma related to mental health and to educate the public on the importance of maintaining mental well-being. In addition, the production and dissemination of relevant Communication, Information, and Education (CIE) materials will help spread accurate information and support the creation of a more supportive environment for people experiencing mental health conditions. Second, the program aims to enhance the capacity of health workers and community cadres to deliver comprehensive mental health services. To ensure quality mental health care, health workers and cadres will receive comprehensive training on mental health support mechanisms. This training will also include mental health emergency response, enabling them to respond quickly and appropriately during mental health crises, as well as to provide more professional and continuous support. Third, the program seeks to establish an integrated mental health network. To improve coordination in the mental health sector, a District Mental Health Implementation Team will be formed, involving various relevant stakeholders. Coordination forums among health workers, cadres, and self-help groups at the village and sub-district levels will strengthen information exchange, collaboration, and integrated management of mental health cases within the community. Fourth, the program aims to support the recovery of people with severe mental health conditions and promote their participation in broader community activities.

The recovery of individuals with severe mental disorders will be facilitated through their involvement in various community activities. These efforts aim to reintegrate them into daily life, provide opportunities for active participation, and reduce social isolation. The establishment of self-help groups and regular home visits by cadres and health workers will provide more personalized support, enabling the identification of the specific needs of each individual.
