Electrified Agricultural Irrigation Program - PLN UIW NTT
Information about Electrified Agricultural Irrigation Program in collaboration with PLN UIW NTT
Taralodu Village has a natural, year-round river that serves as a potential water source for agricultural irrigation. While the community has traditionally relied on this river to irrigate rice fields, its location at a lower elevation than the farmland and a distance of approximately 300–500 meters has limited effective water distribution. Without pumping technology, farmers are only able to cultivate their fields once a year, leaving many plots underutilized.
Recognizing both the potential and challenges, PT PLN (Persero), as a state-owned enterprise, demonstrates its commitment to community empowerment by supporting the Government of East Sumba Regency in improving access to clean water and developing electricity-based agricultural irrigation. This initiative goes beyond household water needs and is designed to optimize communal farming activities, creating opportunities to increase household income and strengthen local food security. To implement the program, PLN NTT Regional Main Unit collaborates with the Community Care Network (JPM) Foundation as the field implementing partner. JPM has conducted site assessments and feasibility verification to ensure community readiness and technical viability in Taralodu Village. Through improved access to irrigation water, the program is expected to enable sustainable agricultural practices, reduce dependence on seasonal rainfall, and support the development of communal nutrition gardens that contribute to household nutrition and additional income through the sale of agricultural produce.
